Enjoy.

I have 5 hours before my flight. I am so confused about what to feel, but I know that I want to go home and I want to stay here.
I can easily imagine living in Cape Town for years on end, it’s one of those cities with a lifestyle that just sucks you in without even noticing. I’ve met some incredible people, DJ’d internationally, and had some amazing experiences. I’ll write about all of them, I hope. But for now, I just have to find a way to say goodbye to the mother city.

Will come soon, I promise. Stories from Lesotho (pictures below), DJ parties, incredible restaurants, and so much more. With only a month left, I’m trying to cram everything in.

I’ll be playing at Fiction’s Untamed Youth party this coming tuesday, get excited. 10-11:30pm, lots of disco house, and hopefully a little heavy bass depending on how fast the crowd gets going.
I’ve finished a few mixtapes since last we spoke, and at some point I’ll share them. One is a loungey kind of thing, and the other is some gritty bass/dubstep/afro-rhythm stuff.
Also, I owe you stories, I will be sure to get those up here soon. Sorry, I’ve been a bad blogger recently, but I’ve been busy getting things like this ^ squared away.

Dave Nada took some dutch house and slowed it down, putting a reggaeton beat behind it. The first track he did this with was Afrojack’s Moombah, so out popped “Moombahton.” It’s groovy, and definitely worth a listen.

Just for fun I threw together my own “moombahton” track this afternoon, you can grab it right here. It’s not nearly on Nada’s level, but it’ll let you get your fix in. The original track is Mowgli’s “London to Paris,” and yes, that is a Cruel Intentions sample you hear in there.

This is massive. “Axel F” (of Beverly Hills Cop fame) pushed up against Major Lazer’s “Pon De Floor.” One of the grooviest things I’ve heard in a minute, expect to hear this at every hipster dance party for the next month and a half.

Charge your iPod, camera, phone, whatever. In a wall socket. Like you’re supposed to, instead of attaching it to your computer. Whatever, I think it’s awesome. And now, back to our regularly scheduled programming.

An apology to those of you reading this and looking for a music blog, I’m well aware this has shifted tone pretty substantially over the last few weeks/months. The real problem is the internet connection here – it’s expensive. When I get a chance I’ll post a few new songs (google: “major lazer vs r kelly hood internet” for an incredible blend). Also, I’m about to sit down and write a post about the club and music scene in CPT, so look out for that. I’m passing out demos like CRAZY, trying to talk my way into the booths. Oh, and I finished a new promo mix – it’s got a hefty dose of top 40 for the clubs around here, but I’m reasonably proud of it. When I get the bandwidth, I’ll throw it up.

This is an amazing performance by the University of Rochester Yellowjackets. They covered the Taylor Swift track “You Belong With Me,” and there’s a nice little surprise at the very end. The audio doesn’t do the live-performance justice, I would love to see this re-dubbed with properly recorded audio. Anyways.

With some new music. I’ve got a whole weird variety of things to share.
First and foremost, I’m (basically) on Thanksgiving break and it is wonderful: I’m re-reading Strunk & White, I only have one Theories of Religion book left for the year, and I have the chance to finish up another mixtape.
If you haven’t seen the new stuff Clipse has been up to you’re missing out majorly. This song has been going so hard, and the video is equally phenomenal.

Also floating my boat is this new Sting project, If On A Winter’s Night (see the album art above). There’s something so pleasant about an album that fits perfectly with Rochester’s weather without even trying. Though I suspect Sting was thinking a little more about dark european winter nights, but he really nailed it for upstate NY. The last album that did it this well must have been Fleet Foxes.

Lastly, has anyone else heard the new John Mayer album? It’s phenomenal, but upsetting that one of my favorite songs happens to feature Taylor Swift. That is so not good for my street-cred.

Updating the look of the blog, hoping to start posting again at some point. Expect a post a week or so, about anything and everything, but hopefully at least one new track a week.
Sorry to have let things slide for so long, it’s been an incredibly busy semester. At the very least this will be the home of my South Africa experiences, full of pictures, stories, and (god willing) local music and flavor.
All the best, EM
