There is a god, and his name is Calvin Harris.
Hopefully this won’t go down as one of those posts where I profess my love to something only to grow sick of it a week later. I hate those posts. I think this one will stand the test of time and my musical ADD. Anyway.
Calvin Harris, the UK producer responsible for “Dance Wiv Me,” is a cool guy with crazy sunglasses. His album, Ready For The Weekend, was just released and I have given it a listen. It is glorious. In fact, I enjoy it as much as Passion Pit’s Manners. (Sidenote: I am sorry for not blogging about Passion Pit, I just never got around to the monstrously long post it would have been).
This is synth/dance pop, with a little hip hop and rock thrown in for good measure. I don’t know where to start on this fantastic little creation, save that I listened all the way through 3 times tonight and it’s good. Take a listen to “The Rain,” the first track off Ready For The Weekend.

Dear Sean Kingston,
Your music is terrible. There, I said it. I’m not tryin’ to start beef or anything silly like that, I just wanted to get it out of the way. First, because I’ve never brought this up with you before, can we talk about your first single?

Remember these? Why is it that some of the best pop classics barely charted?
The KGB – Lover Undercover [mp3]

“Last night I found a lover undercover in my sheets/Didn’t get out of bed for weeks/Romeo’s got nothin’ on me, Romeo’s got nothin’ on me.”
My favorite is of this track is the last audible line of the song:
“Last night I found your mother under covers with a sheep/She couldn’t get outta bed for weeks.”
Classy.

So apparently blogging about JT was a mistake – I routinely get 40 or 50 people visiting my site because they searched for a picture of his ass. That’s just weird. Oh well, I’m going to do it again.
This is an old mashup from Diplo, it’s a mashup between “My Love” and LCD Soundsystem’s “My Love.” It’s really pretty damn good, so please enjoy it. For all those interested, I’ll be DJing over @ ONE tonight around 12ish. It’ll be some house with hip hop vocals layered over parts of it. Some people call those mashups or bootlegs, even blends. I call it genius.

Holy. Crap. There are so many fantastic things to say right now, at 3am as I decide to post a few new tracks I’ve found.
First up: Are 80Kidz Better Than The Twelves?
Black Kids – I’m Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How To Dance (80Kidz Remix) [mp3]

Sooooooo good right now. It’s got the same great throwaway-feel that the Twelves remix gave us, but with more of a 70′s feel – it accentuates the bassline and takes out some of the plinky synths – replacing them with classic rock piano. There’s even some token strings and some “do do dooos.”
Turns out this came out last fall, and I should have done a little searching after the 80kidz did that great remix of MGMT’s “Kids,” but alas. This hasn’t been posted by too many blogs, which is a little surprising, but I’m feelin’ it. I guess it just didn’t stand up in other peoples’ eyes to the Twelves mix. Those people are wrong.
Second: The magic of DiscoTech
Alright, so I’ve been trying to avoid posting every fantastic dance-remix I come across, and this post is what I get for it. I’m unleashing every monster track I haven’t blogged about because I was afraid of being too dance-oriented. Whatever, these tracks are the shit. I’m just posting one remix from DiscoTech, but I’ll post links to the rest just for you.
The newest is the Foo Fighters’ “Everlong” built up for the dance floor. Not something I would throw on as anything besides an epic breather track, but I love it. The track is fast, but not out of control. The synths, with the help of a few filters, move this remix past the “just add drums” technique. It helps that they throw in what is either a live version or the Rock Band track with crowd noise. Either way, it’s appropriately massive but also a little restrained. You can find their SICK remixes of Viva La Vida, Satisfaction, Roxanne, and Homecoming from my links.

Lastly is the clever little remix of T-Pain’s “Can’t Believe It.” I first grabbed this from the great folks over at White Folks Get Crunk, but it’s been a mainstay in my listening for the past month or two. Upbeat and electro-pop, it’s a pleasant take on this “ballad.” There is so much cheez in the synths – it’s so wrong it’s right.

This fall, at that frat you go to every weekend, you will be listening to these songs (if I have my way). Click the titles to download the mp3s, you can stream using the players.
This will be the best t-pain sounding song come this fall. you loved Bartender and Buy You A Drank, and now you need something else to pregame with. It’s this song. Just letting you know.
This is one of those songs that will invariably make its way into a few playlists here and there, purely for it’s appeal to girls. You know, those girls who “just want to dance.” But good news guys, every song that chicks love to dance to is one more opportunity for you to dance with them. Guys who request “good music” from DJs have it all wrong: if you get the girls dancing, the rest will follow – and if the girls are really enjoying the songs and having a blast, it makes your job easy. You can thank me later, after your 4th makeout during this song in the basement. You know, of that frat you always go to.
This song answers a deep need for a song that I never knew I wanted. It’s, without hesitation, my favorite college anthem. “What’s My Age Again?” is a classic rock anthem, no doubt. And “Because I Got High” was funny. Sorta. And then it sucked. So how do we make an anthem that doesn’t suck? Sample that guitar riff in “Say It Ain’t So” from Weezer, rap really well over the beat about getting wasted, rinse and repeat. As Roth so nicely puts it “Time isn’t wasted, when you’re getting wasted.” If this isn’t playing at every house on campus by the end of the first semester, I will be severely disappointed.
